Celebrating the enduring legacy of Liberty’s craftsmanship and artistry, Denim Florals resonates with the remarkable collaboration of our visionary founder, Arthur Liberty, and British textile manufacturer, Thomas Wardle. Renowned for his innovative approach to natural silk dyeing and printing techniques, Wardle’s ‘Liberty Art Colours’ collection – showcased during the early years of the store’s establishment – presented a series of hand-woven silks imported from India, before being expertly dyed by Wardle in Britain. Indigo hues, traditionally extracted from woad and the Indigofera genus of plants, unite six prints in a harmonious colourway collection. Each print is traditionally screen printed on to Lasenby cotton, a base specifically developed for quilting and craft projects.

Based on an archival Liberty textile piece dating from 1939, Topiary Stripe is reminiscent of floral chains, garlands, and ribbons. Created in a series of tonal colourways, this charming stripe arrangement provides a strong sense of directionality, adding visual interest and contrast when used as a border or binding.

Designed specifically for quilting, our soft Lasenby cotton base is suitable for a range of creative projects, including bedspreads, cushions and cosies. It is machine washable and durable enough for daily use, with each richly coloured design created using traditional screen-printing techniques.
